It differs sharply between operators, which catches families out. Shotover Jet requires a minimum height of 1.0 metre, rising to 1.2 metres when the river is high. KJet has no height restriction and a minimum age of two. Skippers Canyon Jet sets a minimum age of three, and the Dart River trips require children to be at least one metre tall and five years or older. The rafting combinations have much stricter limits again.

Shotover Jet allows only forehead-mounted hands-free GoPros: handheld cameras, phones and loose items stay in the lockers at the base. KJet and Thunder Jet let you bring your own camera or GoPro at your own risk, and Thunder Jet provides a locker for valuables.
